Our clients requested an energy efficient, bushfire resistant home for their future retirement on a heavily treed site at Musk, they are delighted with the result. Construction was primarily of tilt panel concrete with two levels of concrete slab one on groud and the second level suspended.. All windows are double glazed aluminium for bushfire resistance and thermal performance. The concrete has been ground to reveal the aggregate with a diamond cut finish for servicibility. The stairs and bedroom overlay flooring are constructed from plantation sugar gum.
The entry security door is a gum leaf design inspired by the gum trees on site, constructed by Lump Studios. The entry deck and pergola are constructed from steel again for bushfire resistance. The house is heated by 4 greenheat radiators plus 2 hydronic towel rails in the bathrooms powered by a wood fired boiler, boosted from 30 evacuted solar tubes. This system is a tenth of the size of a system normally required for this size home.No additional cooling is required in summer apart from ceilign fans and pull down blinds concealed on the roof cover the building windows on hot summer days.
Water tanks are 30,000 litres in total plus 10,000 for bushfire purposes and a fully recyclable all waste Eco Nova system treats all sewer and greywater from the home. The wastewater is used for the garden. Timber veneers for cabinets are from New Age Veneers. All lightfittings are compact flourescent or LED.
